Girls’ basketball Jefferson 43, Vernon 35 Jefferson’s Dedra Pritchard highlighted a double-double performance in a win over Vernon in a SCIL girls’ basketball game by surpassing the 1000-point plateau. Pritchard, who finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, tickled the twine with a baseline jumper five minutes into the game to reach the milestone. She was chosen the Richards and Summers Athlete of the Week while her teammate Brittany Beckmann finished with 11 points including a trio of treys. High Point 56, Secaucus 41 High Point snapped a 20-20 deadlock after eight minutes, bridging the second and third quarters with a 25-14 run to defeat Secaucus in a non-league girls’ basketball game on Saturday. Mikayla Wingle tallied a team-high 13 points. Sparta 72, Hopatcong 19 Sparta routed Hopatcong as Kelly Kiel and Staci Rossi netted 16 points apiece. Newton 48, PJ 37 Whitney Dugan tallied 13 points, and Heather Connelly added a dozen as Newton rolled to a triumph over Pope John. Two days earlier, Dugan tallied a game-high 23 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in a 430-23 romp over High Point. Dugan was named the Newton Athlete of the Week. Lenape 47, Vernon 38 On Thursday, Samantha Baranowski scored 17 points to spur Lenape Valley to a triumph over Vernon. Alicia Yacarrino netted a game-high 18 points to top the Vikings. Boys’ basketball Wallkill 87, N. Warren 81 Mike Hern was on target throughout the contest as he flipped 43 points through the cord as Wallkill Valley edged out North Warren. His game-total eclipsed the old standard of 42 set by Dave Shaw in 1989 as he was chosen the Richards and Summers Player of the Week. His teammate Joe Byrne finished with 24 points as he converted eight of 11 attempts from outside the three-point perimeter. PJ 60, Oratory 43 Doug Greene posted a double-double in leading Pope John to a victory over Oratory Prep in Summit. Green scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds while Sam Mushman chipped in the nine points and nine rebounds. Lenape 72, Boonton 57 Brian Baulier and Keith Flaherty split 44 points down the middle in leading Lenape Valley to a victory over Boonton. Newton 64, Morris Knolls 63 Newton edged Morris Knolls in overtime when Brian Kedash converted a pair of free throws with ticks remaining on the OT clock. His teammate Dan Ehehalt pumped a game-high 21 points through the iron while Matt Fortunato contributed an 18-point effort. Sparta 76, Hopatcong 60 Chris McCann hit the hoop with 29 points that included eight field goals launched from outside the three-point arc as Sparta rallied from a 43-35 deficit at halftime to defeat Hopatcong. McCann was named the Sparta/Lake Mohawk Bagel Athlete of the Week while teammate Ken McFarland chipped in 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jefferson 69, Kittatinny 46 Jay Kabshura posted a double-double effort, scoring 13 points and hauling down 11 rebounds as Jefferson defeated Kittatinny while B.J. Stokes tallied a game-high 19 points.
