Newton 2,Pope John 0 Phil Spence turned in a perfect performance between the posts as Newton blanked Pope John 2-0 in a Sussex County Interscholastic League boys' soccer match on Thursday. Braves' goalie Spence came up with 13 saves as the Lions outshot the Braves 13-11. Spence was named the SCIL player of the week. Luke Sperling netted an unassisted goal 11:39 into the game and Dan Ehehalt added an insurance tally at 21:41 as the Braves upped their record to 3-1. Vernon 3, Jefferson 0 Conrad Rasnak pitched a shutout between the pipes as Vernon blanked Jefferson 3-0. E.J. Clark, Andrew Tarantino and Matt Zinn tallied unassisted goals as the Vikings raised their record to 2-0-1. High Point 2, Hopatcong 2 High Point and Hopatcong battled to a 2-2 tie on Thursday. Drew Styer opened the scoring off an assist from Matt Hlavaty 6:25 into the game and Frank Mobilio netted the tying goal unassisted with less than three minutes remaining until intermission. Keeper Dustin Vandergroef stopped 10 shots on goal. Sparta 3, Lenape 0 Keeper Greg Miller stopped seven shots on goal as Sparta shut out Lenape Valley 3-0. Following a scoreless first half, Luis Velez tallied the game-winning goal eight minutes off an assist from Rafael Millan. Mark Huelsenback and Kyle Behrendt upped the margin to three goals later in the second half. Wallkill 3, Kittatinny 0 Geo Rivera's had a first-half hat trick as Wallkill Valley blanked Kittatinny 3-0. Rivera opened the scoring three minutes into the game with Jeff Posplech assisting. Rivero's second tally came at 17:30 with an assist from Emilio Tirri before the Rivero-Posplech connection finished the scoring seven minutes before the half. Goalie Mike Radino made four saves.
