Cross Country - Pope John takes Bronze in Meet of Champions

Pope John completed its campaign with a third-place finish in the field of 20 schools that reached the 2005 NJSIAA Cross-Country Meet of Champions. The event was contested at Holmdel Park in Monmouth County on Saturday morning. Roxbury and Colts Neck finished in front of the Lady Lions. Lara Heigis was the sixth runner in the field of 177 who had qualified for berths in the MOC. She was clocked in 18:24 as she completed the 3.1-mile challenging course that is the annual venue for this race. In the boys’ division, Pope John was ninth and Hopatcong placed 15th. The Lions’ Anthony LaMastro was fastest among the local runners, crossing 38th among the 184 competitors who had advanced through the sectional and group races to answer the starter’s gun in the Meet of Champions.
