Dual Slalom

Wallkill Valley’s Laura Backman and Vernon’s Devin Fielding led the local skiers to the finish of the 2006 New Jersey Interscholastic Ski Racing Association’s Dual Slalom on Saturday at Mountain Creek. Backman finished third in the girls’ division with a time of 1:02.03 as she posted runs of 33.09 and 28.94 over the two courses. As the competition was strictly individual, no team scores were kept. Backman is the SCIL/McAfee Ski & Snowboard Athlete of the Week. Fielding finished fourth in the boys’ division with a combined time of 59.22 coming on runs of 30.73 and 28.49 while his teammate Scott Resinger was fifth a total time of 59.58 seconds.
