Kittatinny 20, Lenape 14 Kittatinny rallied to defeat Lenape Valley 20-14 in overtime in Syanhope on Thursday evening. Richie Jacobs led the Cougars, rushing for 109 yards on 22 carries as he bolted one yard into the end zone with the game-winning TD in the OT period. Chris Guidi scored from one yard out in the second quarter and Ryan Carroll raced 30 yards to paydirt in the fourth quarter. Hopatcong 2, High Point 14 Hopatcong improved to 2-1 by defeating High Point 27-14. Joe Martinek continued his pursuit of the state’s career-rushing mark by grinding out 228 yards on 33 attempts. He raced 61 yards into the end zone to open the second quarter scoring and upped the Cheifs’ advantage to 21-6 by intermission when he hauled in a 16-yard TD strike from senior quarterback Nick Del Corpo. He bolted 16 yards to paydirt to conclude the Chiefs scoring in the third quarter. Del Corpo had opened the scoring in the first quarter when he plunged two yards into the end zone. PJ 50, Sparta 15 On Sunday, Pope John rolled to another impressive victory, routing Sparta 50-15. Jeremy Tucker rushed for 314 yards on 20 attempts, scoring five six-pointers on runs of 13, 61, 73, 25 and 54 yards and was named the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week that is selected by the Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association. Brenda McDonough tossed a pair of TD strikes to Derrick Freligh of five and two yards to put points on the board for the Spartans. Vernon 7, Jefferson 6 Vernon edged Jefferson 7-6 on a successful extra point placement by Richard Fox in the second quarter following a four-yard TD blast by Zach VonderLinden. Junior quarterback Dom Macaluso pulled the Falcons within one before the intermission when he plunged one yard over the goal line. Newton 28, Wallkill 7 Newton scored the final 21 points in defeating Wallkill Valley 28-7 on Thursday. Steven Zander put the Braves on the board when he rushed three yards into the end zone in the opening quarter. In the second quarter, Zander tossed a 16-yard TD strike to Sam Paul and the Braves never surrendered the lead. Sam Pauk iced the verdict when he picked off a Ranger aerial in the fourth and return it 53-yards top paydirt while his brother Scott Paul tacked on a 25-yard TD run in the second quarter.
