Spartans take title Staci Rossi was named the Lake Mohawk Bagel Sparta Athlete of the Week after leading the Lady Spartans to the championship of the Julius Wargacki Holiday Tournament by routing previously unbeaten Ferris/Jersey City 45-31. Rossi netted a game-high 19 points and was credited with six assists and seven steals. She riddled the cords with a game-high 20 points, dished off seven assists and picked off six steals to propel Sparta to a 54-23 triumph over Mount Olive in the semifinals. Her teammate Kelly Keil produced a her third straight double-double, popping 10 points through the hoop and haulig down 10 boards in the finals and scoring 18 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking three shots in the semifinals. Tech routs Woodbridge Sussex Tech routed Woodbridge Tech 43-11 in the semifinals of the East Brunswick Tech Holiday Tournament as Lindley Thacker flipped a game-high 16 points through the twine in three quarters of action. Brittney Kelly scored added 10 points, all coming in the first half. Newton wins X-mas tourney Whitney Dugan turned in an MVP effort to spur Newton to a 5-44 victory over Warren Hills in the championship finales of the North Warren Christmas Tournament played in Blairstown on Thursday. Dugan, who scored a game-high 14 points, is the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. She was named to the all-tourney team along with teammate Jackie Ragsdale, who finished with 10 points. Kerri Smith chipped in with a dozen. Junior Heather Harold came off the bench to toss seven points into the basket and grab six rebounds. Magdeleno is MVP Gabby Magdaleno of Pope John was named the Most Valuable Player of the Blue Tide Yule Tide Tournament in Harrison. A freshman, Magdaleno netted nine points, picked off nine steals and dished off six assists in a 50-30 victory over Harrison and was chosen the Villa Capri II Pope John Athlete of the Week. Vanessa Moore hit the hoop with a game-high dozen points while Kate Mabunay chipped in with 11 and was named to the All-Tourney team. Taylour Allen flipped eight points into the basket and sophomore Laura Loechner pulled down nine rebounds. Lenape tops Asbury Park Lenape Valley broke into the win column for the first time when the Lady Patriots routed Asbury Park in the Pt. Pleasant Beach Tournament. Tricia DiPaolo tickled the twine with a game-high 28 points and passed off five assists. High Point wins High Point defeated Randolph 54-47 as Jessica Lain flipped a game-high 14 points through the cords, dishing off seven assists and pilfering four steals. Mikayla Wright finished with eight points, pulled down 10 rebounds and grabbed five steals. Jefferson wins in Chatham Dedra Pritchard pumped a game-high 22 points through the iron as Jefferson rolled to a 53-41 triumph over Hillside in the Cougar Classic played in Chatham. Brittany Beckmann added 11 points. Wallkill takes third Wallkill Valley defeated Bergen Tech 58-44 in the third place consolation game of the Holiday Hoop Jam Tournament in Oradell. Jami Gagg posted a team-high 10 points as the Lady Rangers improved to 2-4.
