Highlanders win in OT

    West Milford remained unbeaten when the Highlanders pulled out a 27-21 win over Wayne Valley in overtime on Friday evening at McCormack Field in West Milford. With 2500 spectators watching, the Highlanders claimed their fourth straight victims when quarterback Matt Lovendusky connected on an eight-yard TD pass to Chris Thomas. Not only did West Milford improve to 4-0, it was also the fourth straight time the Highlanders have beaten the Indians.Trailing 7-0 at the halftime break, Thomas fielded the second half kickoff and raced 93 yards into the end zone. When Paul Fogg split the uprights with the extra point placement, the score was tied 7-7. That deadlock held briefly for the Indians made it back-to-back kickoff returns for six-pointers to move back into the lead at 14-7. Jamel Donald pulled the Highlanders to within one point of the lead later in the third quarter when he bolted 12 yards to pay dirt but the point after touchdown attempt failed. Lovendusky pitched West Milford into the lead at 21-14 when he hooked up with Nick Music on a 25-yard TD aerial and followed with a two-point conversion pass but the Indians battled back to tie the score at 21-21 before the regulation clock ran out. West Milford entertains West Side/Newark on Friday evening at McCormack Field with the kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Roughriders dropped to 1-2 when they lost a 21-12 verdict to Pequannock on Friday evening in Pequannock.
