Nearly 500 athletes representing seven different countries and 37 states took part in the 2006 U.S. Open of Mountain Biking over Memorial Day weekend at Mountain Creek’s Diablo bike park. The downhill bike event was open to both professional and amateur riders and is considered to be one of the country’s premier events with more than $40,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. The course is more than 1.25 miles long and is considered to have some of the most challenging bike terrain on the East Coast. (Photos by Eileen Stanbridge)
