Jefferson Recreation Dept. offers new instructional tennis program

    Jefferson - The Jefferson Recreation Dept., in conjunction with Sy’s Guys and Gals, is sponsoring a new instructional tennis program for children and adults in July. There will be five lessons for each level of instruction, and all classes will be at the courts at Chamberlain Park on Chamberlain Road (off Berkshire Valley Road in the Waters Edge development) in the Milton/Oak Ridge section of Jefferson. All programs are sanctioned by the U.S. Tennis Association. Pee Wee level instruction, for children ages four to seven, will take place from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday, July 10; Wednesday, July 12; Friday, July 14; Monday, July 17; and Wednesday, July 19. Cost for the five 45-minute classes is $60. Junior level instruction, for children ages eight to 13, will be from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and available in two identical sessions. Session I will run Monday, July, 10; Wednesday, July 12; Friday, July 14; Monday, July 17; and Wednesday, July 19. Session II will be on Friday, July 21; Monday, July 24; Wednesday, July 26; Friday, July 28; and Monday, July 31. Cost for the five one and a half hour lessons is $75. The Adult level instruction class is open to students 14 years old through adults and will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11; Thursday, July 13; Tuesday, July 18; Thursday, July 20; and Tuesday, July 25. The fee for the five-class session is $75. There is a minimum of 15 students and a maximum of 30 students per class; registration is on a first-come basis until each session is filled. Daily registrations will not be accepted. > Sy Engleberg of Sy’s Guys and Gals was named the March 2006 “tennis volunteer of the month” by the U.S. Tennis Association for his efforts to teach the game to anyone who wants to learn. Engleberg teaches tennis to over 700 youth participants at numerous area parks. Registration forms will also be available in the display racks at the Jefferson municipal building and at the public library.
