Newton takes down Lenape in baseball

— The Newton Braves shutout the visiting Lenape Valley Patriots in high school varsity baseball on Sunday, May 4, 2014. The final score was 10-0. The game took place at Memory Park in Newton.

The Braves improved to 9-6 on the season with the victory, while the Patriots fell to 11-3 on the year.

Newton pitcher Cole Van Luvender threw six scoreless innings to earn the victory, scattering five hits and striking out one.

Patriots pitcher Jim Fluke struck out four batters over four innings of work. He allowed two earned runs.

Newton hitters Joe Maker and Jor Bernotas recorded two runs batted in each, respectively.
