Newton takes hardwood title in overtime

— Newton High School defeated Westwood Regional High School in varsity boys basketball on Tuesday, March 7, top take the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 Sectional Title. The final score, after two overtimes, was 73-67. The game took place at Newton High School in Newton.
Newton's Jason Heter scored a game-high 25 points. Jake Tarabokija scored fifteen points for Newton including the buzzer-beater that tied the game 51-51 at the conclusion of regulation time. Tarabokija's last second effort was a 'Hail-Mary' half court shot. He then scored 10 points in the following two overtime periods to propel third-seeded Newton over fourth-seeded Westwood in the championship game.
Jordan Steward scored a team-high 21 points for Westwood. Colin Liddy added 19 points and Joe Paulillo contributed 13 points.
Team records: Westwood Cardinals 18-11. Newton Braves 20-6.
