Vernon’s boys’ team took first plce in the 2006 NJISRA State Championships contested at Mountain Creek on Friday and Saturday, while the girls’ team finished second to Wayne. Blair Academy’s Kaitlin Surdoval of Sparta won the girls’ combined and was selected the McAfee Ski & Snowboard Skier of the Week. Wallkill Valley’s Laura Bachman, who was fourth after the giant slalom, finished second in the combined with a clocking of 3:30.24. Vernon’s Keith Vella was runnerup in the boys’ combined standings with a time of 3:07.28 after finishing second in both disciplines.
