Jefferson’s Devon Cross turned in a first place performance in the Sussex County Interscholastic League varsity slalom race through 32 gates at Mountain Creek last Thursday, as the Falcons finished second to Vernon in the boys’ team race. Cross was named the SCIL/McAfee Ski and Snowboard Athlete of the Week as he posted a clocking of 1:12.15 on runs of 35.90 and 36.25 seconds. Wallkill Valley’s Laura Backman finished first among the girls, combining her first run of 37.85 seconds with a time of 40.76 seconds the second time down the slope as she posted a total clocking of 1:18.61.
