Sparta's Laura Maurer leads Washington and Lee to title

Sparta’s Laura Maurer powered the top-seeded Washington and Lee women’s volleyball team into the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-0 victory over eighth-seeded Guilford on Friday morning, winning by scores of 30-9, 30-11, 30-14 at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va. Maurer, a freshman outside hitter and Pope John alumna spiked seven kills as she dominated the action at the net. Washington and Lee went on win its fifth-straight ODAC Championship after defeating Virginia Wesleyan (30-16, 30-19, 30-17) in the tournament semifinals and then topping Randolph-Macon (30-25, 30-21, 26-30, 30-16) in the championship match as the Lady Generals upped their record to 32-4.
