Spence hogs spotlight as Newton edges Vernon

Phil Spence starred in the North Jersey Fall Baseball League as he pitched and batted Newton to a 5-4 win over Vernon. It was the first win for Newton which had dropped its opener. Spence hurled five innings, allowing only one hit and fanning eight. At the plate, he went 2-for-3 while teammate Dave Crawn knocked in three runs. Steven Scudilla also went 2 for 3 for Newton.
