Tourney raises scholarship money

A field of 125 men and 35 women competed for prizes and bragging rights in an ever-changing weather pattern at the Jack Kurlander Memorial Golf Tournament. The winners in the men’s division were: At Great Gorge Country Club - Wayne Waleck, Dale Kelly, Gerald Dorman and Jerry Grotian; at Black Bear Golf Club - Don Mattucci, Gary Kitchell, Glen Hanf and Jeff Fletcher. The winners in the women’s division were: At Great Gorge Country Club - Delores Casale and Maureen Cleary; at Black Bear Golf Club - June Day, Dot Harraka, Lynn Fogarty and Kim Komancik. Proceeds from the Jack Kurlander Memorial Golf Tournament are to be used for the construction of the Jack Kurlander Memorial Garden, which will overlook the par-3 seventh hole at Black Bear. The hole will now be called Jack’s Crossing, an appropriate name for the 165-yard over-the-water shot required to make it safely on the green of this challenging hole. Proceeds will also go into a scholarship fund. The Jack Kurlander Memorial Foundation will award scholarships annually to qualifying candidates at West Milford, Pope John, Sparta, Wallkill Valley, Vernon and other area high schools. Recipients of the awards will demonstrate academic achievement along with a spirit of entrepreneurship and community involvement.
