YOJ Sports hosts annual ice fishing derby Jan. 28 29

Andover - YOJ Sports of Andover will hold its fourth annual ice fishing derby Jan. 28 and Jan. 29, with the proceeds to be given to the Lake Aeroflex Trout Club. The club stocks trophy-size trout for anglers of all ages to catch. Last year the club raised over $3,000 through member dues and donations, and was able to stock 450 trout. The derby will be held from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day on the four lakes within Kittatinny Valley State Park in Andover. Weigh-in will be at YOJ Sports until 3:30 p.m. each day. Prizes will be awarded after weigh-in on Sunday. Over $1,000 worth of prizes will be awarded, including a Jiffy Power Ice Auger, three $100 cash prizes, three rod-and-reel combs and three $50 gift certificates from YOJ Sports. Anglers will be competing for the heaviest trout, bass or pickerel. The angler who catches the heaviest fish among all three species will be crowned “King of the Ice.” A competition was held among art students at Newton High School to see who could make the most creative crown. The winner was Jamie Whipple, who received a $50 cash award for her efforts. The competition was organized by Susan Hebel, art department head, with the derby coordinator.
