NEWTON — The New Spring Group is picking up momentum on its way into 2012 and looks forward to creating events and promotions that continue to increasingly draw new and repeat visitors to Spring Street and Historic Downtown Newton. During this year’s holiday season, participating merchants have been sponsoring a downtown holiday window decorating contest with the theme Bright Holiday Lights. Visitors were invited to shop, dine, and vote for their favorite holiday windows. Santa arrived on Spring Street on Dec. 10 and visitors to Mother Moon Baby Boutique, An Open Book and Maxwell and Molly’s Closet posed. Other holiday activities include participation in community caroling on Spring Street and a Christmas Vigil at the Square on Friday, Dec. 16 with light refreshments at the Fire Museum. Activities in consideration for 2012 include a second annual Fire & Ice event featuring ice carving and a chili cook-off. The New Spring Street Group is a members-only association of like-minded, enterprising merchants dedicated to promoting downtown Newton as a premiere shopping and entertainment destination. Members meet monthly to share resources and plan collaborative promotions, advertising, activities, and events designed to showcase Newton’s “Eclectic Eateries, Distinctive Shops, and Emerging Arts.” To find out more contact Sara Megletti at 973 940-7976 or 973-729-5095 or smegletti@pbandjstores.com.
