On Tuesday, Feb. 20 at about 3:57 p.m.. Detective Ryan Hickman and Patrolman Robert Popelka responded to a citizen’s complaint of a man attempting to steel a car behind an apartment building on Main Street. Upon arrival the officers found Richard V. Corby, 36, of Netcong attempting to steal a car belonging to one of the building residents. Corby refused to cooperate with the officers, and resisted arrest. After taking Corby into custody the officers determined that he had been in some type of physical altercation with an unknown person just prior to his breaking into the cars behind the building, and that he suffered some injuries from that altercation. Corby was transported to St. Clare’s hospital in Dover where ho was treated for minor injuries, and being intoxicated. While at the hospital he became disorderly, and assaulted. Hickman, causing an injury to his hand. Hospital staff had to come to the officer’s aid. Corby was treated, and released from the hospital. Hickman suffered only a minor injury. Corby was charged with two counts of burglary, one count of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and defiant trespassing. He was lodged in the Sussex County Jail on $24,000 bail.
