Stanhope Police
A hit and run accident was reported to police at about 1:08 p.m. on Saturday. March 31. Sgt. Robert Schellhammer responded to Route 183 and Dell Road and spoke to a witness who observed a Budget rental truck strike the fire hydrant, and drive away. The hydrant was badly damaged. Scellhammer was able to obtain information from witnesses about the driver’s identity and possible destination. He notified Hopatcong Police and requested them to look for the vehicle. Michelle A. Damore, 50, of Nelcong was stopped by Hopatcong Police, and turned over to Sgt. Schellhammer. Damore was charged with failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while suspended, and failure to surrender a suspended drivers license. She was turned over to the Netcong Police department on a $2,500 warrant. Earlier that day, at about 9:17 a.m.,Baron B. Brown, 41, of Stanhope, turned himself in on a traffic warrant. He was arrested by Sgt. Schellhammer, and released on $215 bail. The warrant was issued by Hanover Township municipal court for a traffic violation. Also on March 31,at about 10:23 p.m. Patrolman. Joseph Indano took custody of Kenneth M. Mullen, 51, of Mine Hill on a traffic warrant. Mullen was stopped on Rt. 206 by the Byram Police department, and turned over to Indano due to the Stanhope traffic warrant. Mullen was released on $240 Bail.
