State pool rules have changed

Stanhope Homeowners who purchase inflatable pools may be subject to the same regulations as their neighbors who have in-ground or the larger, fixed-sided above-ground pools. Arlene Fisher, code enforcement official in Stanhope Borough, said the state code was amended in the spring of 2006, but the changes have not been publicized. Stanhope Mayor Diana Kuncken said she was concerned people would purchase inflatable pools not realizing they would need to conform to fencing requirements. Each municipality has its own requirements for fences around pools as well as gates and locks on the fences. State law, until 2006, mandated municipalities regulate pools with a surface area of at least 250 square feet that were more than 24 inches in depth.
