Newton - The annual holiday party at Project Self Sufficiency in Newton had some guests to make the party a little more special this year. Ryan Opiekun of Green, a seventh-grade student at the Rev. Brown School in Sparta, played his guitar and sang for the 300 party guests. The party also included members of the Rev. Brown Girl Scout troop 826, who organized crafts and games for all the children. Opiekun, who has been playing the guitar for a while, had to find and teach himself new holiday music that would appeal to the children, aged six months to 12 years old. The Girl Scout troop members and Opiekun said they hope to spread a little more holiday spirit by volunteering their time for this Project Self Sufficiency event.
