Students recognized for heroism

Newton - Kittatinny student Chris Howarth is a survivor today because four of his classmates were in the right place at the right time and used their water-safety training to save his life. The students, Kyle Campbell, Patrick Rosica, Erica Campbell and Jenna Grablutz, received an Award of Heroism and words of praise from schools superintendent Robert Walker and school principal Susan Kappler. The students had been participating in an after-school swim team program at the Kittatinny pool when Howarth experienced duress while swimming underwater. When his classmates realized he was having a problem, they helped to bring him to the surface of the water and then to the side of the pool, where he was removed from the pool by the swim coach.
