Substitute teacher training course at SCCC

    Newton - Sussex County Community College is offering a “Certified Substitute Teacher” course for individuals who have earned at least 60 college credits. The course will be held in five sessions from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. beginning Thursday, March 2. Prepared by the corporate and community education division at the college, in cooperation with the Sussex County School District Superintendents group, the course will be taught by Linda Osorio, who has extensive substitute teaching experience. Participants will learn the classroom survival skills necessary to be successful in the classroom, including management techniques, how to use lesson plans, and methods to establish rapport and credibility quickly. A representative of the N.J. Dept. of Education will also address the class, and students will be able to start the required certification paperwork as part of the training.
