NEWTON - The first important step in Sussex County Community College’s presidential search has been successfully completed. After reviewing proposals from ten search firms, the board of trustees hired Goldhill Associates, whose principal member, Bob Barringer, conducted the college’s previous presidential search. Barringer revisited SCCC the last week of September. At that time, he met with three groups. The first of these, the Community Advisory Committee, consists of 14 members of the community who have a stake in the college, including business leaders and representatives from the SC Chamber of Commerce, the Freeholders, the United Way of Sussex County, the SCCC Foundation, local schools, Newton, Hampton, The NJ Herald and the police and firefighters. The second group, the College Advisory Committee, consists of approximately the same number who represent the various groups within the college community including students, senior and junior faculty, administration, facilities and unions. Finally, Barringer will meet with the board of trustees. The purpose of all three meetings is to develop a profile of the characteristics most desirable in the new college president. Following the meetings,. Barringer will enunciate this profile and develop a brochure and advertisements to be utilized in seeking candidates. The advertisement in The Chronicle will be published on, or about, October 9. In addition, Barringer, who has many personal contacts in the community college sector, will also contact candidates he feels might be desirable, and encourage them to apply. All applications should be received by Nov. 13. Gradually, the list of candidates will be investigated, interviewed and their numbers reduced to the final group. In February, the most promising candidates will visit the college and meet with the various groups. It is expected that the board of trustees will select a candidate by March 2007.
