After the June 5 primary and a successful write-in campaign, the Sussex County Democratic Party has a full slate of candidates for county and state office for the first time in memory. Assembly candidates Toni Zimmer of Sparta, Pat Walsh of Mount Olive, and Senate Candidate Ed Selby from Wantage were assured of a ballot spot with their unopposed nomination. Chris Wyman and Cobi Cronen, who are seeking the freeholder nomination, and Elizabeth Kaplan, running for Sussex County Clerk, each got the required 100 write-in votes necessary to be included on the November ballot. The three candidates, all from Vernon, were endorsed by the Democratic Party at a meeting one week before the primary. The legislative candidates are seeking campaign financing from the state’s Clean Elections program, which requires them not to take money from special interest groups and instead focus on small contributions from voters. If they meet the guidelines by raising matching funds, they will receive the financing. Wyman and Cronen, as freeholder candidates, said that they will review the Vision 20/20 plan of the Sussex Chamber of Commerce, the Highlands Act, Economic Growth strategies, and other state and local plans to make their own recommendations. They promise not to be “Me, Too, Democrats,” but “can-do” ones.
