Sussex County Division of Senior Services Celebrates Senior Day

AUGUSTAOn Aug. 10, the Sussex County division of senior services hosted Senior Day at the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show in Augusta. For the last 30 years the Sussex County division of senior services has been celebrating the lives and contributions of our seniors by dedicating an entire fun-filled day at the State Fair. Guests are provided with food, entertainment, health screenings and access to local vendors. For the second year in a row, the Senior Idol contest was a hit amongst audience members. This year’s winners were Phyllis Golding with first place, Dorothy Armstrong with second place and Tony Casale with third place. At the closing of the event, two seniors were presented with the Sussex County Senior of the Year award. Ann Zeek of Sparta received an award from the Senior Quality of Life Foundation presented by Attorney Elenora Benz. Jean Steffy of Hamburg received the Edna O’Connor Award presented by Freeholder Glen Vetrano. They also received acknowledgement for their contributions to the community from Freeholder Susan M. Zellman, County Clerk Erma Gormley, Officer Terry Hospodar , Assemblyman Guy Gregg and Congressman Scott Garrett. Sussex County division of senior services director Mary Lou McCutcheon was also presented with an award for her outstanding contributions to the Sussex County senior citizen community. Mary Lou McCutcheon has been director of the Sussex County division of senior services for over a decade. She will be retiring from the division next month.
