Sussex County YMCA honors Capital Campaign
Hardyston - The Sussex County YMCA, located at 15 Wits End Road, will be hosting a special dedication ceremony from 10 - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 to honor the Capital Campaign Donors, whose generous contributions helped raise the necessary funds to open the YMCA’s new facility. The ceremonies will include the dedication of the Flag Pole, Brick Patio and Donor Tree, followed by light refreshments and a tour of the Sussex County YMCA. “This ceremony is but a small token of our appreciation to the Capital Campaign Donors who helped build this YMCA into the success that it is today. Without their generosity, the Sussex County YMCA would not have had the opportunity to expand to meet the needs of the community and make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of Sussex County residents,” said David Carcieri, executive director of the Sussex County YMCA. What people know today as the Sussex County YMCA is actually a far cry from where they began in 1976, as a community outreach program from their sister branch at the Fairview Lake YMCA. These programs were a big hit, and by 1980 the Sussex County YMCA received its official charter and the new Y continued to operate as a “YMCA without walls,” offering their programs in various satellite facilities throughout the county. Then in 1995, a feasibility study concluded that a full-service YMCA was not only possible, but was actually in very high demand, and so began the YMCA’s planning and fundraising efforts. Thanks to a successful Capital Campaign, the YMCA was able to raise the necessary money and move forward with their plans to serve the fitness needs of Sussex County residents. Today the Sussex County YMCA offers a multitude of programs for people of all ages throughout Sussex County at their new, state-of the-art facility. “Looking back, we can see how far the Sussex County YMCA has come and how much the Capital Campaign Donors made a difference, not only in helping to build a better YMCA, but also to help build a stronger community,” said Carcieri.
