Teacher professional development courses offered at community college
Newton - Sussex County Community College is continuing its partnership with the N.J. Dept. of Education as a professional development provider (#691-9489). The college offers a variety of teacher professional development courses for kindergarten through eighth grade math teachers. Teachers will receive six hours of professional development credit for each session they attend. Cost of each session is $75 and includes lunch. All courses are taught by Dr. Barbara Glass, assistant professor of mathematics at the college. The next course in the series, for teachers of grades three through five, is “Pre Algebra, Data Analysis and Probability,” to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at the college, located at One College Hill Road in Newton. Attendees will participate in activities on patterns, graphing, variables, equations, functions and problem solving designed to develop algebraic thinking. Participants will also do activities to help students develop data and probability concepts. These activities include methods of collecting, presenting, and interpreting data.
