Teen Centers go on the road this summer

Byram-The Youth Advisory Board to the Byram Recreation Commission has organized several trips for the surrounding area teens. The day trips created last year were a big success and the Youth Advisory board decided to bring them back this year. In meetings earlier this spring, several options for an exciting line up of summer trips for teens were discussed. Ideas were presented, debated, some were rejected but finally six were approved. For members of a MAC teen center, the cost of the day trips is reduced. The MAC I and MAC II teen centers are drug, alcohol, and smoke free environments sponsored by the Lenape Valley Municipal Alliance and made possible by volunteer chaperones who include the Byram Township Police, the Lakeland First Aid Squad and other Sussex County residents. The teen center at the Byram Civic Center will be open every Thursday beginning June 24. The teen center at St. Michael's in Netcong will be open every Tuesday beginning June 29. Both centers are open from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who have completed grades 6-8. Teens who have completed grades 9-12 may come from 8 to10 p.m. To register for the trips stop by the Byram Municipal Building or send a check to Byram Township Parks and Recreation, 10 Mansfield Drive Stanhope, NJ 07874. Include the teen's name, address, phone number, desired trip, and age. The trips planned for this summer are: Meadowlands State Fair- Wednesday, June 30. Rides, games of chance, entertainment, and racing pigs. Participants should bring their lunch or plan to buy lunch at the fair. Price: $30. Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m Rafting on the Lehigh River n Wednesday, July 7. Participants should bring swimsuits and sneakers. Sunscreen recommended. Bring lunch packed in a plastic bag, and water. Price: $35. Time: 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Knobles Amusement Park n Wednesday, July 14. Roller coasters and rides. Participants should bring lunch and a snack for the bus ride. Price: $40. Time: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dave and Busters n Wednesday, July 21. Huge game arcade. Price includes pass for games, but participants may wish to purchase laser tag or more game passes. Bring lunch or plan to buy lunch. Price: $27. Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom n Wednesday, July 28. Amusement and water park. Wear swimsuit. Bring or buy lunch and snack for the bus ride. Price:$40. Time: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Point Pleasant Shore Trip n Wednesday, August 4. New Jersey shore and boardwalk. Wear swimsuit. Bring or buy lunch. Price: $25. Time: 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
