A pit bull, a dachshund and a well mixed mix are wishing for a new home There are so many unwanted animals that need homes in the area. Visit one of the rescues below to consider taking home a cat, dog, rabbit, horse, bird, or other companion. BARKS (Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad) BARKS is a Byram-based animal rescue for dogs and cats. Dylan is a 3-year-old pitbull who is looking for a home. He is full of energy and love. Dylan will do well in an active home with older children. He is up-to-date on shots and ready to go. In addition, BARKS is currently looking for dog-walking volunteers. They have several dogs at the Byram Animal Shelter who desperately need daily walking. These dogs gain a lot by having time out of the shelter. They burn off energy, gain leash-walking experience, and enjoy socializing with people. A person can gain a lot by helping to make these dogs’ lives better. Dog walker volunteers must be at least 18 years old and go through an orientation. If you are interested in helping, please contact Judy Lofgren at volunteers@barksinc.com. For more information on Dylan, and BARKS, visit www.barksinc.com or call 973-300-3185. Second Chance Pet Adoption League This month, Oak Ridge-based Second Chance Pet Adoption League chose to spotlight two dogs in need of homes. Princess is an unusual-looking 5-year-old dachshund/basset hound mix who was surrendered because her owners moved. She bonds closely and is loyal and affectionate. Princess is looking for a home where she can be the only pet. She is about 35 pounds fully grown, is housebroken and very well-behaved. Trixie is a gorgeous and fluffy senior collie/shepherd/spitz/chow surrendered to a local shelter because the grandchildren were allergic. She is a happy, friendly dog who loves everyone, is housebroken and good with cats. She deserves a home that will appreciate all of the love and devotion that she has to offer in her golden years. These dogs, and many more, are available for adoption and can be seen at www.secondchance.petfinder.com. More information can be obtained by calling 973-208-1054. Second Chance also holds adoption days every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains at 3009 Route 10 East from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Noah’s Ark Animal Welfare Association Ledgewood-based Noah’s Ark always has a variety of cats and dogs in need of loving homes. One such kitty is Juliet, a 5-year-old tabby who is sweet and affectionate. She likes to be brushed and petted, and adores a good belly rub. She also enjoys playing one-on-one. On November 20 and December 23, eat at Applebee’s in Parsippany from 5-9 p.m. as part of their Donate to Dine program and proceeds will help the shelter. Also, on December 17 and 22, stop by Barnes & Noble on Route 10 in Ledgewood to have gifts wrapped and support Noah’s Ark’s animals in need.
