Three Byram teens advance to Eagle Scout
BYRAM - Anthony J. DellaPosta, Billy Garrison, and Russell Marron of Boy Scout Troop 276 of Byram Township were formally advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor at Lenape Valley Regional High School recently. The three Eagles spent their entire scouting careers together beginning with Tiger Cubs in Pack 276. They crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts in 1997 and spent the next six years working along "the trail to Eagle." They had many memorable adventures, including camping trips to the U.S. Naval Submarine Base at New London and a tour of the USS Dallas; campouts at Sandy Hook, an Aviation Merit Badge weekend in Easton, Penn., with an Aviation Explorer Post; and numerous summer camps together. Each of the Eagles completed a noteworthy community service project of well over 100 man-hours. Garrison's was done for St. Michael's Church in Netcong, where he constructed and installed a portable stage for the youth teen group. Marron's Eagle project was at the Veteran's Memorial in Byram, where he landscaped and installed a cobblestone block walkway in front of the monument. DellaPosta's project was completed at Our Saviour's Church and Nursery School, where he prepared and landscaped a playground area, repaired and installed playground equipment, and modified a storage shed. In addition to their scouting activities each of the Eagles participated in noteworthy school and community activities. Garrison has been in Lenape Valley's Marching and Symphonic Bands. He was drum captain for the champion marching band this year. He also was on the tennis and bowling teams and was active with the German Folk Club, Interact, and Student Council. At St. Michael's Church, he is in the Life Teen Organization and is a Youth Group Peer Minister. He has studied karate for 13 years, holds a black belt in Isshinryu Karate and is a member of the American Isshinryu Academy. Marron has been in Marching, Symphonic and Jazz Band. He made All-County Band in his junior year. Russell is a varsity letter holder on the cross-country and track teams. He has been a Scholar Athlete for four years and was co-captain of the cross-country team this year. He is also a member of the gifted and talented program, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. He is a Who's Who Among America's High School Students and was an attendee to the National Young Leaders Conference. DellaPosta is a varsity letter holder on the soccer and track teams. He is a four-year Scholar Athlete. He is vice-president of the Lenape Valley Chapter of D.E.C.A. and served as D.E.C.A. state competitor for two years. He was also a Boy's State alternate for Lenape.
