Byram - The Byram Township Environmental Commission and the North Byram Community Council are co-sponsoring a forum, “Tough Love for our Lakes!” on Monday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Papoose Room of the Lake Mohawk Country Club, 21 The Boardwalk, Sparta. The forum is an attempt to share lake management strategies and resources and is set as a discussion for elected officials, municipal managers, planning board members, environmental commissioner and concerned residents. Two speakers will address the group. Fran Smith, general manager of the Lake Mohawk Country Club, will discuss Lake Mohawk Country Club’s thorough, award-winning lake management strategies, ranging from septic management and a ban on phosphorus products to selective chemical use for weed/algae control, as well as ways to address roadway stormwater run-off issues. Frank X. Browne, of F.X. Browne, Inc., Lake Management Specialists, brings an entire toolbox of weed-control strategies into our discussion, with special emphasis on natural control methods (including use of vegetative buffers), best management practices, and a cautious use of herbicides. F.X. Browne Inc. recently produced a lake management summary for Byram Township under a New Jersey Highlands Council grant. Light refreshments will be served.
