Volunteer income tax assistance program for income-eligible county residents
Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services offers tax program Sussex County The Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Senior Services, is sponsoring a program to assist with federal and state income tax preparation. This program is staffed with trained volunteers and is free to income eligible residents of Sussex County. The VITA program runs from Feb. 5 through April 7. Stephen Gruchacz, administrator for the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services said, “I encourage all qualified citizens to take advantage of this program. We are very grateful for the trained volunteers who donate their time and expertise in assisting with this income tax program.” The VITA sites located throughout Sussex County are as follows: Montague Municipal Building, Sussex Wantage Library, Vernon Senior Center, Sparta Senior Center, Liberty Towers, Franklin Senior Center, Hopatcong Civic Center, Hamburg Municipal Building, Project Self Sufficiency, Sussex County Division of Senior Services and the Sussex County Division of Social Services. To schedule an appointment, call the Division of Senior Services at 973-579-0555 ext. 1224 or ext. 1221. At the time of your appointment, you are required to bring the following information: current Federal and State tax forms; a copy of your 2005 Federal and State income tax returns; Form 1099 including SSA-1099; W-2; records of any other income received; IRA annual statements; receipts or cancelled checks for any medical/dental expenses and charitable contributions; and if you own a home, your 2006 real estate tax bill.
