SUSSEX COUNTY-Businesses and individuals responsible for keeping designated handicapped parking areas accessible to the public must assure access and ensure that curb cuts or other improvements are not obstructed, officials at the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services said. Title 39 of the Motor Vehicles and Traffic Regulations states that, "if snow or ice is obstructing the special parking spaces, curb cuts or other improvement designed for accessibility for the disabled, it shall be removed within 48 hours following the weather condition that caused it ceases." There may be a penalty of $200-$500. Individuals parking in a designated handicapped space must display a vehicle identification placard or face a $250 fine for the first offense and $250 fine and up to 90 days community service for subsequent offences.
