Stillwater —Colin J. Campbell has been appointed the new director of Fairview Lake YMCA Camps and Conference Center’s Environmental Trips for Challenge (ETC) program, which combines summer camp, adventure trips and environmental awareness in one and two week programs. Campbell was formerly the conference director. “Colin has been a member of Fairview Lake YMCA’s staff since 1998 and also served as trip director for the summer camp,” said Ellie Daingerfield, executive director. “This is a natural progression for Colin, who has significant YMCA experience. I am excited to have him at the helm, and look forward to working with him in his new position.” A former teacher with the New York City Board of Education, Campbell is no stranger to the YMCA, having worked at several different YMCAs across the country and around the world. His work with the YMCA began in 1984 as Unit Director & Cabin Counselor at the YMCA of Bridgeport’s Camp Hi-Rock. In 1989, he moved to the YMCA of Honolulu, Camp H.R. Erdman, where he was program specialist, and then program director. He also worked as assistant conference director at the YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch from 1994 n 1996. Campbell’s international YMCA experience comes from his work with camps at the YMCA of Stockholm in Sweden and Camp Windsor in Melbourne Australia. Prior to joining Fairview Lake YMCA as conference director in 1998, Campbell served as Naturalist/Trip Leader/Waterfront Director at the YMCA of Tacoma’s Camp Seymour, where he taught environmental education and classes in outdoor skills. In 2000, he was the recipient of the Garden State Cluster Program Recognition Award for camping. “I am very excited about this new position,” said Mr. Campbell. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn and to make a difference with the campers. ETC is a wonderful program that offers campers the opportunity to learn new skills, challenge themselves through various adventure pursuits such as backpacking, canoeing, sailing and more, while creating memorable camping experiences with their fellow campers and trip leaders. I’m proud to be a part of it.” For more information about Fairview Lake YMCA or their programs, call 973-383-9282 or visit www.fairviewlakeymca.org.
