Bear hunter's baiting should be banned
To the Editor: Not too long ago, I contacted the New Jersey Park Rangers to remove tree stands which were within 350 feet of my property. And underneath the stands were corn feeders. Hunters are luring bears into our neighborhoods! What good is educating people about their garbage, when right down the road, baiting is taking place? I have seen bagels, dunkin’ donut piles, etc., in areas so close to homes. These donuts and bagels, left for black bears, will make them more prolific and produce more cubs! And this is just what the state does not want to happen. Baiting must be banned! The only way that the DEP is going to stop bears coming into neighborhoods, is not to allow hunter’s to bait! It is all or nothing! The hunter’s are bringing bears into our neighborhoods! They even have instructions on how to feed bears. Susan Kehoe Highland Lakes
