Bears can be dangerous

To the editor: In response to the August 24, letter from Jean McCartney of Bergenfield, on Aug. 23, 2006, a 450-pound black bear attacked one and then killed another of my sheep after dragging it up a two-acre incline after knocking down a protective fence. My sheep are “Gentle And Beautiful” and so vulnerable to attacks from the ever-increasing bear population. Our beloved animals are defenseless and so are those of us living here. Bear killing is not for fun. Get real. Many a victim was formerly an admirer. If a cuddly bear looked like a mole, would you feel so sympathetic? Arlene Wolff Sussex
