Caring is alive in this county

To the Editor, As a community, one has gotten use to safety being associated with respect to schools. We feel comfortable with the thought that children are safe in schools. That is jarred by blaring headlines of shootings and other incidents .When incidents do occur, we are reassured by the response of professionals and volunteers who assist in meeting the calamity. On Thursday, Sept. 28, sixteen girls at Hopatcong High School, a teacher chaperone, and the bus driver were traveling through Sparta Township in a school bus on their way to Sussex Tech for a student conference on community service. At the intersection of 183 and 517 bypass the bus was struck by a dump truck, which from the reports, ran a red light. Although there were injuries from the accident, fortunately there were no deaths. The accident resulted in professionals and volunteers rising to the need, and proving once again that “caring is alive” in Sussex County. All too often one reads negative stories. In this case the positive human side emerged. We express our appreciation to those involved in meeting the needs which arose from the accident. In particular, we thank the officials in Sparta Township for the professionalism of the response. Caring is alive. Mayor and Council, Borough of Hopatcong
