Free Byram from the NJDOT

To the Editor: I whole-heartedly agree with the premise of a recent letter to your paper that began, “The State Department of Transportation continues its hostile occupation of Byram.” This is overwhelmingly true. Using its weaponry of bulldozers, dynamite, and chains saws, the occupying forces of NJDOT have blasted a swath of environmental carnage along Route 206. They are descending from atop Cat Swamp Mountain, and are poised to continue this path of destruction through the heart of our village, with no regard for the citizens or businesses in their path. Aiding and abetting the occupying forces are the “bosses” of Sussex County, pulling the strings of a puppet mayor who presides over village meetings with gavel in hand, anxiously waiting to strike down any voice of dissent from amongst the disenchanted crowd. He claims 20 years ago to have freed his “kingdom” of evil rulers. The irony, however, is that he now has become the very image of those manipulative people about whom he complained when he was the voice of dissent. He continues to encourage and support this occupation by using “weapons of mass deception,” publicly weaving a fabric of tall tales using threads of questionable truth. It’s time enlist the forces of good for our village. Council members Esposito, Griff, Oscovitch and Riley: Rise up against this deceptive dictatorship and rid our community of the evil occupiers. Standing faithfully in the shadows are residents and allies, sisters and brothers in arms, who will fight alongside you until their last breath to ensure that good design wins out over evil planning. Council members: Before you this Tuesday night will be a resolution of support for a better plan. It represents an important step in our battle against this pavement-spewing “axis of evil.” I humbly plea for you to adopt this resolution, and begin the process of taking back our town for its suffering residents. Utilize this instrument of good, and chart a course for a prosperous Byram of which we can all be proud. Free Byram from the NJDOT! The revolution starts now! Scott Olson Byram
