‘Hooters' is harmless

To the Editor:  A recent letter to the editor protesting a Hooters being built in our area implied that the Hooters girls would have to be “imported.” How insulting. Does the writer think there are no pretty, shapely young women in Sussex County to apply for the job? Hooters indeed has the best wings and one of the best kids’ menus of a chain restaurant. My little girls love the ones in Florida, where they say, “Let’s go to the restaurant where the waitresses look like Barbie Dolls and actually smile.” I’m not sure we would be there for “Happy Hour” every night, but I really don’t mind a new restaurant coming into the area. However, I did not like that our favorite Italian Ices shop moved next to the sleazy “Exotic-Wear” place. The whole summer we never stopped for ices because of the creepy guys standing outside that strip mall. I wonder if his sales were up or down.  I also do not think we need another Staples in the area when Wal-Mart really has the best prices for back-to-school shopping and other office supplies. What I would really like to see in the area is a Borders or Barnes & Noble. If that happens, don’t be surprised if you see the “Hooters girls” buying books. Young and attractive women do read, and I’m sure they will have a lot of money to spend with the great tips they will make.  Merrill Dunlap Stockholm
