Israel only doing what is right

To the editor: I was a little bit disturbed after reading Michael Busche letter to the editor in last week’s edition of the Sparta Independent. If you ask me, Israel has every single right to attack Lebanon with the force they are directing at them. In 2000, Israel pulled out of Lebanon after a very long, excruciating occupation. Since then, Hezbollah has been stockpiling weapons and terrorists in their best attempt to kill off as many Israelis as possible. No where in his letter did I see him once condemn Lebanon’s government for standing idly by and watching Hezbollah continue to ignite war between the two countries. The Lebanese prime minister was very clear on who was to blame: Israel. These people (Lebanese) have been harboring terrorist organizations for years, and we should have expected nothing less than to see the prime minister of Lebanon blame Israel. Need I remind any readers of who ‘started’ this conflict? Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers, and after years of putting up with this, Israel finally decided they’d had enough. Michael Busche also needs to be more informed about Israel’s military operations. They are not aiming at ‘random targets’. The so-called ‘mosque’ which Israel destroyed with bombs had a huge underground section, most likely a bunker housing terrorists. Israel has tried to kill as few civilians as possible, taking out the Hezbollah headquarters and other targets as well. Mr. Busche also says that Israel will have a lot of hostility from their neighbors; however, most of the countries in the Middle East have held Hezbollah to blame for this eruption of violence, not Israel. The Lebanese Prime Minister is getting no sympathy from the Arab League nor the United Nations when he has allowed a terrorist organization to dictate and run his country. Meanwhile, Israel has begun to send ground troops into Lebanon. This is where myself and Mr. Busche agree. It is the start of another long and painful occupation, but Israel is certainly doing what needs to be done, action Dylan Katz Sparta
