Last week's My Turn strikes a chord
Beth Kalet is right to praise the gift of silence in her My Turn essay. Apparently more than a few people, in business and personal life, have to program quiet time into their schedule. Each and every Sunday, along with Christian holy days, we incorporate holy silence into our spiritual worship and discipline. What society seems to have lost, we publicly practice each week and privately daily. The digital world provides enough noise and distraction. Taking holy time out each week for a spiritual sabbath - at a church if you are Christian; elsewhere if another faith - is good for all of us. Too many people are trying too hard to adjust their lives to distortions culture imposes. Believe it or not, traditional and consistent religious practice is good for you.
