Leave the hunters alone

To the Editor: The other day I was reading the article on the bear hunt in the Nov. 24 issue of the Township Journal. I stood up to stretch my legs and to no one’s surprise, there was a bear in our back yard. My wife and I were lucky both of our boys were home inside on this cold day. My name is Joe and my family lives in Andover. In the past year, we have had at least five encounters in our yard. We do not feed the bear or leave our garbage outside. With all the new homes destroying the woods, where else can they go? Yes I am a hunter whose entire family loves the outdoors. I have harvested many deer. I always try to donate deer to Norwescap and/or a needy family. Both are very thankful for the meals it supplies. Many hunters donate to Norwescap yearly to feed the hungry So to all “antis,” and the “birthday girl,” please leave the hunters alone. You talk about letting nature be, but you want to use birth control to the deer. Give me a break. Remember, we are all meat eaters, but my family’s meat of choice is venison. Let us harvest meals for our families. We are not “killers,” we are just fortunate to be able to enjoy a different kind of meat. Joseph A. Krieg Newton
