Harvest House soup kitchen seeks gifts for challenge
Have you ever heard of Alan Shawn Feinstein? Harvest House began with the establishment of the Vernon Township High School Hunger Project in September 1997. The students saw a need for a soup kitchen in the area and wanted to do something about it. After three years of research and hard work the first hot meal was served at Harvest House in October 2000. The First Baptist Church of Sussex graciously offered space in their church and Harvest House found a home. It depends on the continued support of the community to help keep Harvest House operating. We have a specific request now. We are currently in need of financial support to continue to feed the hungry. Many have donated so much in the past and we thank you for your contributions. As per the Feinstein Challenge any funds we generate during the months of March and April are divided proportionately among all agencies. Therefore any support that you can give would be greatly appreciated. We currently are serving 50 to 60 hot meals a day due to the economy and with your continued support we will continue to feed those in need. The people that rely on Harvest House for a hot meal are appreciative of what is done for them and with your help we can continue this program. Donations can be mailed to Harvest House, P.O. Box 374, Glenwood, NJ 07418. Food donations can be brought directly to Harvest House at the First Baptist Church located on the corner of Route 284 and Main Street, in Sussex Borough. We also receive credit for $1 per item that is given. Examples of items needed are, soup, canned fruit, canned vegetables, mayo, juice and gift cards are always a great help to purchase the perishable items. There is candy available for sale at the following places to help during this challenge: Glenwood and McAfee Post Offices, Napa Auto Parts in Pine Island, N.Y., and Ginas Barber Shop in Sussex. Remember Easter is coming so get your candy now and help Harvest House. Giovanna Villano Treasurer, Harvest House
