Need facts on school renovation

To the Editor: I agree that Sparta High School needs to be expanded and renovated in order to keep up with the growing student population and with new technology. The residents of Sparta have been told that there is a proposal for the expansion and renovation of the high school in the amount of $72 million. It is standard practice to review an itemized list of all expenditures leading up to the amount being proposed for such work - in this case $72 million dollars. It is also standard practice to get at least three estimates from different contractors before we decide who will be given the contract. Has the town published any of this information; and if so, where? I need a new roof in my home and have been given four different bids for a new roof. Each proposal lists all of the items of the proposed work to be done and the amounts. The range is between $8,000 and $16,000 for the same project. Sparta residents need more specific information before we agree to pay someone $72 million dollars. Mirna Rosende Sparta
