Need for fly space disputed
To the Editor, Absolutely a stage is important to the high school and it is included in the auditorium for use during the various school functions, but “fly space?” This is a high school, not a performing arts school, it seems once again people are forgetting that there are specific, basic needs of the body of students that need to be addressed and then there are the non-essentials that somehow become “must haves.” Fifty-foot ceilings equipped with all sorts of pulleys and hoist systems and various and sundry mechanics for high school plays scenery storage seems over the top. I’ve enjoyed many of the high school productions over the years and certainly am in favor of continuing the productions, but this “fly space” seems a totally non-essential item that is somehow becoming a necessity.
