Politics intrude on board of elections appointment

To the editor: The title of the Sparta Independent article dated 7/20/06 read correct. As usual the Independent, leaning left, shows only one side of the story. This time it was more blatant than ever. We heard from all involved, (Sussex County Democratic Chairman Howard Burrell, Democratic commissioners Keslo and Francesca, Sanderson, Republican commissioners Linda Fountain and Dave Mortimer), all except Sussex County Republican Chairman Rich Zeoli. The article stated “Earlier this year, Sussex County Board of Elections Administrator Joanne Williams announced she would be retiring from her position on June 1.” The Republicans and democrats have been working to find the appropriate person for the opening of Sussex County Board of Elections administrator for months. The Republicans have worked for bipartisan compromise. Politics aside, Sussex County Republican Chairman Rich Zeoli has worked diligently to find the best person for the position. The article failed to question Chairman Zeoli on this situation. Thankfully for Sussex County voters a compromise was met by Republicans Dave Mortimer and Linda Fountain and Democrat Fran Sanderson that Marge Lake McCabe will fill the position. The democrats should be questioned for the politicking, their allegations and stalling of the hiring process.
