Reader chastises NBC News

To the Editor; NBC news should be ashamed for showing the video of the Virginia Tech murderer Cho. They spent the better part of the day Weds Playing up the receipt of the package from Cho. They attempted to demonstrate that they struggled over the ethics of showing the video to the public. My guess it was a brief and swift debate. The video had absolutely no social benefit to the average viewer except to cause a stir and increase (as it did) viewers to the struggling evening news program. The benefit of the madman’s manifesto is to the legal and psychiatric professions or perhaps to help bring closure to the families and friends of the innocent victims. I feel great sadness over the sudden and tragic loss of life at the hands what was obvious to most a troubled man. Lets hope our public institutions and those hired to protect us learn from this so awful event. However, I fear that we will not as the Columbine tragedy took place almost 8 years ago to the day. My heart goes out to the families, friends and students of VT. Scott MacLean Sparta
