Waterloo Village
To the Editor: Byram Township, Sussex County, indeed, the State of New Jersey, will suffer a substantial loss with the closure of Waterloo Village, here in Byram Township. The historic site hosted many spring, summer and fall concerts (some favorable, some not), offering respite from the hustle and bustle of modern daily life - classical concerts under the tent, rock, jazz and more. It offered visitors a smathering of local history - what life may have been like for early settlers and, of course, native tribespeople. At one time, hope grew that Waterloo Village might be the cultural “Berkshire Mountains” of our metropolitan area. Alas, not to be. People can read for themselves the reasons why this resource is lost to us, but in a state that is home to so many large and prosperous businesses (not the least of which are the casinos) and so many successful and wealthy residents - are there none who will step up and help save Waterloo? It is understood that the state, in its current fiscal condition, cannot do very much. What better time, then, for those who have the wherewithal to give something back to the people of New Jersey? Might not be a bad legacy for some - seems to have worked well for the Rockefellers and Mr. Trump. I don’t have the cash needed, but I do have time and talent to lend, as I’m sure do others.
